Philosophy

Philosophy, woven into the practice

The philosophy of pranayama is part of every course: it is taught in the daily late-morning session, beside corrections and practice, in all three courses.

You study how classical yoga texts, such as Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, describe prana, the breath and the mind, and test what they say against your own practice.

Courses in Rishikesh: questions and answers

Which courses do you offer in Rishikesh?

One course, in three lengths: the Advanced Pranayama & Yoga Philosophy Course runs for 7, 15 or 30 days, with tuition of $149, $229 or $349. All three start together each month and share the same first week. We also run shorter yoga and pranayama retreats.

When does the next course start?

All three courses start on the 1st of every month, or on Monday the 2nd when the 1st is a Sunday. The next start is 1 December 2026. Sunday is a rest day.

Is accommodation included?

Not in the course. Course fees cover tuition only, and we help you find a room nearby in Tapovan when you enquire. Each retreat page lists what that retreat includes.

Is there a separate yoga philosophy course?

No. Philosophy is woven into the pranayama course: the daily late-morning session, 11:30–13:00, covers corrections, further practice and the science and philosophy of pranayama.

Is the course a teacher training?

No. It is an in-depth practitioner course: it teaches pranayama, the bandhas, mudras, bija mantras and the philosophy behind them for your own practice. It does not lead to a teaching qualification.

Should I choose the course or a retreat?

Choose the course for structured, cumulative study of pranayama, with corrections every teaching day. Choose a retreat for a shorter stay that mixes practice with rest; each retreat page describes its own programme.
