The Physical Challenge

Let's be honest: the first week is tough. Practicing 4–6 hours of yoga daily is a shock to the body. Common first-week experiences:

  • Muscle soreness everywhere (especially hip flexors and shoulders)
  • Early morning exhaustion (6 AM starts are non-negotiable)
  • Stomach adjustment period (Indian food, water change)
  • Information overload from philosophy and anatomy classes

By week two, your body adapts remarkably. By week three, you'll wonder how you ever lived without this routine.

The Emotional Journey

  • Week 1 — Excitement mixed with culture shock and physical overwhelm
  • Week 2 — Deeper emotional processing. Unexpected tears during hip-openers are completely normal.
  • Week 3 — A profound deepening. You feel settled, present, and deeply connected.
  • Week 4 — Integration and empowerment. Teaching practice builds confidence.

Food and Nutrition

On a residential teacher training, meals are usually included: traditional sattvic vegetarian food prepared fresh daily. (Our pranayama course is tuition only; Tapovan's cafés serve the same kind of simple vegetarian food.)

What Surprised Our Students Most

  • "How quickly I stopped missing my phone" — Digital detox happens naturally
  • "The friendships are unlike anything I've experienced"
  • "I came for the certificate but left with a completely transformed worldview"
